For the first time since 2008, the Union County Football Team has reached the Elite 8 of the State Tournament.

"It's pretty exciting going into this year we knew we had a good ball club. We're just thankful we were able to play and we challenged our guys with a tough schedule and our guys responded well in the second part of the season and we're playing our best football as of late," said Union County Football Coach Derek Johns

"It's super fun, we came out here ready to work and we're just excited, we're ready," said Union County Senior Linebacker/ Running back.

The road here was not an easy one, the team started 0-4, but was determined to turn things around, and since then, they have won 5 in a row.

"We have a lot of seniors on this team, so I feel like that maturity has allowed us to learn from our mistakes and apply them to our game so I wish we could go back and play some of those guys now that we've fixed our mistakes," said Union County Senior Left Tackle/ Defensive end Darius Moore.

"0-4? That didn't get us. We came into practice ready to work everyday. 0-2, we were still working. 0-3, we were still working. 0-4? We wanted to win and after that we came and got it," said Seales-Portee.

The Braves will meet unbeaten Elizabethtown on Friday, and Union County believes it is up for the challenge.

"The practicing and the conditioning we just don't stop. We keep going. We don't let anything get in our heads we just keep going," said Seales-Portee.

We're really determined, these guys are pushing themselves harder than they ever have so I feel like we're ready for this team. I know that they are big, but I know that our guys are tough I feel like Elizabethtown hasn't played a team that's as tough as we are," said Moore."

The combination of sunshine and southerly winds will make for another abnormally mild day throughout the Ohio Valley - expect an afternoon high temperature near 69° this afternoon. Friday evening looks as though it will be just as pleasant; after seeing the upper 60s earlier in the day, we'll dip to 60° by 5 PM before falling towards 54° around 7 o’clock. We are however, watching a passing low pressure system and accompanying cold front that is expected to pass through the Tri-State late Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
