University of Southern Indiana has added two new intercollegiate athletic sports next year.
USI has announced the formation of the new Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams, which will begin competition in the Fall of 2022.
The teams will compete in the NCAA Division II level and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The university expects to add 25 men and 25 women to the combined teams. Home practices and competitions will take place at the new on-campus Aquatic Center, scheduled to open in the Fall of this year. In addition to on-camups, UIS hopes to work with Evansville Sports Corp. and the City of Evansville to bring larger meets to the new Deaconess Aquatic Center in Garvin Park.
"There is a strong and passionate swimming and diving community in our region, and we are thrilled to implement a new program to allow students to represent USI in the sport they love," USI Athletic Director Jon Mark Hall said in a statement.
The hiring process for coaches will start this Summer.
