We are just 13 days away from the start of the Indiana high school football season. Before we dive into our countdown to kickoff series, we feature the new Southern Indiana Athletic Conference.
Both Vincennes Lincoln and Jasper will be heading back to their old leauge in 2020. The Alices and Wildcats were both members of the SIAC until 1980, and that is when both schools became members of the Big 8 Conference.
Speaking of the Big 8, that conference is now gone. Jasper claimed the very last Big 8 title outright, while Lincoln finished 4th in the league.
Both schools have historic winning traditions, as they plan to return to their winning SIAC ways once again.
"Our kids are excited, our entire staff is excited about the opportunity to compete in the SIAC," said Jasper head coach Tony Lewis. "We know it's a great conference we know that week in and week out you're going to face great coaches, great competition and our kids are excited about making the move and playing some new teams on a regular season schedule."
"It's a great feeling going into a new conference being able to see new faces and just having better competition this year to really see where we stand as a team," said Jasper Senior Quade Popp.
"Some of the old guys like my dad or some of the older Vincennes guys that used to play in the SIAC, some of those guys are pretty excited about us moving back to some of the teams that they are used to playing when they were in high school," said Vincennes Lincoln Head Football Coach Levi Salters.
"I'm really excited for it," said Vincennes Lincoln Senior Andrew Brown. "It's better competition, you know? It just makes our program a lot better playing, every single game of the season is just you know good games."
