The recycling center at Wesselman Woods is closed, effective immediately.
Folks looking to drop off recyclable items will have one less place to do so as Wesselman Woods (WW) announces it is permanently closing the on-site recycling center.
According to the announcement, the on-site services at WW had become redundant with the number of recycling options increasing in the county. The on-site recycling center has seen a drastic reduction in the number of items collected.
The closure is expected to help staff focus their time and energy on preserving and sharing Wesselman Woods and Howell Wetlands.
The recycling program was created to help fill a void when there were very few options for recycling within Vanderburgh County. At the time of the WW recycling program's creation, curbside recycling service was not available to Evansville or Vanderburgh County residents. But that has changed during the years the recycling center has been open.
WW is not ending the off-site collection just yet.
The organization will continue to offer monthly off-site recycling in partnership with Vanderburgh County Solid Waste through 2021.
