West Side Nut Club Cancels Annual 'Santa Land' Event Due to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic is canceling Saint Nick's annual visit to Evansville's west side.

Officials with the West Side Nut Club have called off their annual Santa Land event for 2020 due to continued COVID-19 activity in the area.

Club members hope the December tradition at Acorn Plaza can return in 2021.

The cancelation of the Christmas time event may come as no surprise with other downtown Evansville holiday events being canceled due to the virus, in addition to the Nut Club canceling its iconic Fall Festival back in July due to safety concerns created by the virus.

Even though Jolly Old Saint Nicholas won't be making his usual appearance for the now-canceled Santa Land event, kids and families hoping to meet Santa may still get that chance at Evansville's Eastland Mall from Dec. 4 - Dec 24.

Today's high of 93° not only marks our hottest recorded temperature of the year, but our highest since the afternoon of August 10th of 2020! Despite the oppressive heat, the day itself wasn't necessarily unpleasant; while peak temperatures climbed abnormally high for this time of the year, a weak cold front passing to our south ushered in a breezy northerly wind flow that helped take the edge off that summer-like heat across the Tri-State earlier this afternoon. The evening ahead will remain quite pleasant, albeit mild - expect the mercury to dip from 87° to 75° between dinnertime and 10PM. Between the northerly winds and clear conditions overnight, morning low temperatures will trend toward the upper 50s and low 60s early Tuesday; we'll fall to 60° even in Evansville.
