After months of controversy, Chicago-based RWE Renewables Americas, the company planning to build wind turbines in Posey and Gibson Counties, has canceled both projects.
The cancellation follows new zoning ordinances that were passed in both counties which created unprofitable obstacles for the project's continuation.
In addition, the wind turbine projects faced some backlash from community members who were concerned about maintaining the functionality of the Tri-State's Doppler radar.
Even if the company had gone through with the project, it would have still been a few years before the windmills would have arrived.
Developers had previously said that over 100 of the windmills could have been coming to the Tri-State.
