Mother Arrested in Gibson County After Driving with Children While on Morphine: ISP

A woman was arrested in Gibson County on Wednesday night by the Indiana State Police after they say she was transporting her two children, ages 15 and 4, while under the influence of morphine.

On Wednesday night around 10:00 p.m., Indiana State Police (ISP) Trooper Tanner Hurley stopped a driver in Gibson County on SR 64 east of CR 100 North for driving left of center. According to Trooper Hurley, the driver displayed signs of impairment.

The driver was identified as 48-year-old Deana Hoffman of Crossville, Illinois. ISP says she had her two children, ages 15 and 4, in the vehicle with her.

ISP says after further investigation revealed Hoffman was under the influence of morphine, she was arrested and taken to the Gibson County Jail.

Hoffman was charged with two Class 6 Felonies: 

  • Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated with Passengers less than 18 years of age
  • Neglect of a Dependent
