The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office says 60-year-old Kevin Weiss of Evansville, Indiana, has been found guilty of several Child Molesting charges, and that it's not his first offense.

A Vanderburgh County jury found Weiss guilty after a two-day trial in court following an investigation by the Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began in November of 2019 when the victim attended a Truth Talk presentation at an area school that covered the topic of sexual abuse.

The victim passed a note to the presenter after the presentation notifying the presenter of the abuse. School staff was then notified of the abuse, in addition to the Department of Child Services.

The jury found Weiss guilty of:

  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 4 Felony)

Following the verdict, Weiss was also found guilty of the Repeat Sexual Offender Sentencing Enhancement for having a previous conviction of Child Molestation in Posey County in 1990.

“The victim in this case displayed tremendous courage by speaking up,” explained Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann. “Those types of presentations are extremely important for our young children. Evansville Police Detective Brian Turpin and Deputy Prosecutor Emily Hall followed the case through and achieved some sense of justice for this victim.”

Weiss will receive his sentencing on Oct. 21.

After what was our coldest start today since January 8th, temperatures only climbed as high as 25° in Evansville earlier today, marking our coolest afternoon in just under two weeks. The evening ahead will be equally bone-chilling; after seeing temperatures around 21° at dinnertime we'll tumble back down to 19° by 10 o’clock under gradually decreasing cloud cover. The combination of clear skies and northerly winds will allow temperatures to fall all the way back down to 15° in Evansville early Friday morning. Worse yet, windchill values are expected to dive right back down into the single digits area-wide.
