The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office says 60-year-old Kevin Weiss of Evansville, Indiana, has been found guilty of several Child Molesting charges, and that it's not his first offense.

A Vanderburgh County jury found Weiss guilty after a two-day trial in court following an investigation by the Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began in November of 2019 when the victim attended a Truth Talk presentation at an area school that covered the topic of sexual abuse.

The victim passed a note to the presenter after the presentation notifying the presenter of the abuse. School staff was then notified of the abuse, in addition to the Department of Child Services.

The jury found Weiss guilty of:

  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 1 Felony)
  • Child Molesting (Level 4 Felony)

Following the verdict, Weiss was also found guilty of the Repeat Sexual Offender Sentencing Enhancement for having a previous conviction of Child Molestation in Posey County in 1990.

“The victim in this case displayed tremendous courage by speaking up,” explained Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann. “Those types of presentations are extremely important for our young children. Evansville Police Detective Brian Turpin and Deputy Prosecutor Emily Hall followed the case through and achieved some sense of justice for this victim.”

Weiss will receive his sentencing on Oct. 21.

Today's high of 93° not only marks our hottest recorded temperature of the year, but our highest since the afternoon of August 10th of 2020! Despite the oppressive heat, the day itself wasn't necessarily unpleasant; while peak temperatures climbed abnormally high for this time of the year, a weak cold front passing to our south ushered in a breezy northerly wind flow that helped take the edge off that summer-like heat across the Tri-State earlier this afternoon. The evening ahead will remain quite pleasant, albeit mild - expect the mercury to dip from 87° to 75° between dinnertime and 10PM. Between the northerly winds and clear conditions overnight, morning low temperatures will trend toward the upper 50s and low 60s early Tuesday; we'll fall to 60° even in Evansville.
